We are Niamh Walsh, Alastair Jardine and Cleo Ngiam. We are Senior User Experience Designers that are part of the Springer Nature Digital team. We are working towards sharing our digital services for Nature, Springer and Biomed Central, while maintaining the connection between authors and editors at each journals. In this session, we will discuss what our authors have told us about the practicalities of getting published. The expectations and difficulties of this process. We will also aim to understand how you imagine getting yourself published in future. We are open to questions about anything else regarding this process and our findings in other authors experience.
Cleo is a senior user experience designer who loves to work in various cross-functional teams and believes in collaborating in order to build clean, accessible and functional design.
She has worked with startups like Namecheap, MNCs like McDonalds and government organisations like City of Chicago and the Singapore National Council of Social Service. She is a design graduate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a post-graduate of sustainable urban design from Archeworks.
Niamh Walsh is a senior user experience designer for Springer Nature working on content acquisition. She began here career in publishing as a literary agent representing American books to the global English language market, before turning her attention to systems and design. Before joining Springer Nature, she worked with the UK Medical Research Council as well as a long list of public sector clients. Niamh has a BA in Art History from Goldsmiths and an MSc in Digital Anthropology from University College London..
Alastair Jardine is lead user experience designer for Content Acquisition. Before joining Springer Nature, he worked at Network Rail then the Guardian News & Media. Whilst at the Guardian, he worked on rebuilding the content management system from scratch, created their first chatbot, and designed their Alexa skill.
At the University of Edinburgh, Alastair studied geography, then completed an MSc in Geographical Information Science. When he’s not working, you’ll usually find him riding a bicycle.
